GLASS OPTIONS: Tempered vs. Ceramic

Clear Tempered Glass is a standard feature in the SUPREME and FULLVIEW doors. Tempered glass is also available tinted or smoked as an option. Tempered glass is the industry standard for fireplace doors and can handle temperatures up to 650 degrees.  Wilkening Fireplace Company offers a 90 day warranty on tempered glass. If you plan on burning your fireplace with the doors open, tempered glass is usually sufficient, however, closed door burning is best done with the ceramic glass.

Ceramic Glass can handle temperatures up to 1400 degrees and unlike tempered glass allows the radiant heat of the fire to pass through it. This material has been tested to withstand severe temperature changes, including flame directly against it, and is standard in most high efficiency, heating wood and gas fireplaces. Wilkening Fireplace offers a 10 year warranty for breakage due to heat on ceramic glass.
